Face Masks: Fabrics and Pattern Link
In a recent New York Times article, scientists determined that quilter's cotton was the most effective fabric for cloth masks because of it's high thread count. All of the cotton quilting fabrics at Going Coastal Fabrics are premium quality and either GOTS organic or OEKO-Tex certified so you know you are choosing the safest fabrics to have against your skin. When I think about the fact that my family and I will be breathing through the fabric, it makes me feel good to know that they are breathing through non-toxic fabric.
I want to share the FREE fabric face mask pattern from Dana Willard at Made Everyday. The instructions are great and I like how she uses knit ties which are much faster to make than the bias tape ties I made for my first batch of masks. Going Coastal Fabrics has a selection of OEKO-TEX certified fabrics from Dana Willard - even some of the prints she featured in her tutorials. You can find them here. You can shop for quilting cotton here and organic knit for the ties here.
For the mask in this photo, I used solids from Cloud 9 Organics in Lagoon and Rain. I absolutely love the anchor knit ties which are from Art Gallery Fabrics and the print is called Nautique Spell in Sky.
