Soft Book Panel - The Wonderful Things You Will Be
This weekend I made this adorable soft book using the Dream World soft book panel from Riley Blake Designs. This will be gifted to my nephew for Christmas. I'm delighted to gift it to him as I was given a hard cover copy of this book when my second son was born and I have fond memories of reading this to him. The Wonderful Things You Will Be by Emily Winfield Martin is an endearing story with beautiful illustrations and a sweet message of love. I like that Riley Blake's fabrics are OEKO-TEX certified because babies put everything in their mouths so I know he will be safe from harmful toxins if he does chew/drool/slobber on the book.
Instructions for making the soft book are included with the panel. However, Riley Blake has a soft book panel instruction panel that is very helpful. You can find it here.
To make the soft book you'll need just basic sewing supplies: cutting mat, rotary cutter, ruler, pins, batting, and hand sewing needle.
I had batting scraps leftover from a quilt that I was able to use. The video tutorial uses interfacing, too, but I did not use that and I love the way the book came out. Here are some pictures that I took as I went along.
The hardest part is ensuring the pages are lined up properly.
And here is the finished soft book alongside the hard cover book.
I'm thrilled with the way this project turned out and I can't wait to give this to my nephew for Christmas. This would also make a great baby shower gift. I might add this project to my go-to baby gift list. You can find the panel to make this project here.
